“You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”
3 years…that’s how long its been since I walked the stage at my own graduation ceremony. Crazy to think so much time has passed but that moment will always be with me as it will be with you for many years to come.
This was the second year, I was not able to be present at all of my friend’s graduation ceremonies. But whether it’s from far away or close by, I will always be supporting them through small and big accomplishments.
Just like these beautiful people below! Some I’ve known for many years and others I recently met but all I am equally proud of.
Many of you struggled but overcame challenges that could’ve made you decide to quit but you refused to give up. You persevered through it all and now you are taking the final step by completing a milestone in your life you dreamed of for so long.
But remember as you take this final step, you are not taking it alone. This moment is as important to your family, whom have been there from the beginning.
Your parents took you to your first day of school when you were just a kid and now they get to witness you as an adult graduate college…. for them all their sacrifices and lessons was all worth it to see you accomplish your goal. Or the rest of your family members who cheered you on as you graduated from high school and now college.
And your friends, who witness you do all-nighters, study last minute for a test, and complain about school all the time to finally see you graduate. To witness a friend happily cross that stage is one of the best feelings ever!
You definitely can’t forget all the people (haters) who doubted you! Obviously, they’re not important but it feels really good to post your beautiful grad pics and say you did it even if some people were wishing you wouldn’t….IN YO FACE!
Before you close this chapter in you life, make sure you enjoy it all. Let family and friends celebrate you but especially you celebrate yourself for all the hard work you have done these past years. You deserve it!
And don’t worry about not having it all figured out. Everything falls into place when it’s meant to happen. That job you haven’t secured yet, you will get a job offer when it’s meant to happen. You have to move back in with your family until you get a job…you’ll eventually move out into your own place. Stop worrying and instead celebrate this accomplishment!
To my recently graduate friends,
I am so proud of you and can’t wait to see all that you are going to accomplish in your life. You’re about to enter a new chapter in your life that is wild but fun. Whether you move away or stay in Houston, I will always be here for you to help you navigate adulthood.
Welcome to Alumni Life!
