It’s Not Just for 4 Years in College, it’s a Lifetime

Fall recruitment is around the corner, and whether you are thinking about rushing or not here are some tips  to ease your nervous:

  • “Everyone is Nervous”-Even the sorority girls who are talking you. Many of the active girls who will be recruiting you, probably is their 1st time working recruitment with their sorority. They feel the pressure to recruit PNMS (possible new members) for their sorority so you better believe they are as nervous as you.
  • “Planning for Months”-Recruitment has been in the planning for months. This is a bid deal for sororities, it’s the event they have been waiting for all year. So much time and effort goes to preparing for these 5 day event and it’s all worth it when they see their new members running towards them on Bid Day.

  • “Trust the Process” -As a PNM, you cut sororities at the end of each round and the sororities cut PNM’s also.  At the end of recruitment you are left with the sororities that you have the most common with and that want you. So if you get cut from one of your favorites, it’s okay. There are other sororities that really wants you to be part of their organization. So trust the process and you will find your true home.

  • “Be Yourself” Literally be who you are. Don’t try to be someone you are not. You are going through recruitment to find your home but you won’t find your true home if you fake your way there. Sororities know what they are looking for and the personalities that best fit their chapters. So just be you, if they don’t like who you are then that’s their lost and someone else will love you for who you are.

  • “Stereotypes/Rumors are Wrong”- Don’t listen to rumors or stereotypes that people say about being in a sorority, especially if they haven’t been in a sorority.  It isn’t until you go through recruitment and join a sorority that you realize a lot of these stereotypes and rumors are not real. Don’t let this prevent you from going through recruitment.

  • “Not Everyone Finds a Home” The majority of girls who go through recruitment find a home but not everyone does. There’s many reasons why PNM’s might not find a home. They don’t have the time/money for it, or they just realized that joining a sorority isn’t for them. And that is okay, they gave a recruitment a try and it wasn’t for them.

When I went through recruitment in Fall 15′, I was so nervous but if I would’ve have know these things then I wouldn’t have been so nervous and I would’ve enjoyed it more. In my rho gamma group I made friends with girls who are in different sororities and friends who unfortunately ended up dropping recruitment for different reasons, but they are all involved in multiple organizations on campus. Recruitment can be a long emotional process but I don’t regret going through it. If I hadn’t I would have never met my sisters and the memories that I have. So give recruitment a try and you never know, you’ll meet some of your best friends and find a home.

Love Always,

Lidia
