‘To me, Youtube isn’t just, ‘watch my videos!’, It’s, ‘let’s have a conversation and get involved in each other’s lives,’- Shane Dawson
Growing up, social medias wasn’t a thing until the end of my high school years. That’s when Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook and Pinterest was huge but Youtube was different. Early Youtube was an online dating website but soon would become a media outlet that gave many people an opportunity to create a career like no other. It was definitely ahead of its time.
Jenna Marbles, Lilly Singh, Nighahiga, Kevjumba, and Cholo Adventures were some of my favorite Youtubers. There was a time when I would have all of the notifications on for each of their channels so I would be the first one to watch their videos.
Over the years, I got busy and didn’t have much time to watch videos but for the past 3 years I’ve caught myself watching videos a bit more. And that is thanks to my sisters, Rubi and Elizabeth.
They introduced me David Dobrik’s Vlogs, The Ace Family, Juanpa Zurita, Liza Koshy, Nikkie Tutorials, The Bucket List Family, Dude Perfect, Kendall Rae, Yes Theory, Kian & Jc and so many more.
Towards the end of 2019, they both convinced me to do something that I said I would never do: Youtube. I just never thought in this moment in my life that I would be creating a YouTube Channel and creating videos just for fun.
Initially, creating a Youtube channel was Rubi’s idea but then Liz had great content ideas. They both ended up convincing me to do it with them.
It’s funny because I was a Communications major so you think making videos would be something I would do but it was mostly news packages that I created. Now I help create content videos from vlogs, challenges, questionnaires, self-care, etc. And it is definitely not what I’m use to but I’m not alone in creating them.
Rubi and Elizabeth (Liz) push me out of my comfort zone every single day, especially when it comes to doing something like vlogs or challenges. I’m not use to filming on a daily basis and sometimes it can be uncomfortable having a camera on you for a long period of time.
We literally spend 2 months brainstorming what our channel would be about and this is what we can up with:
- Las Herreras: I can’t tell you how many arguments we went through until we finally agreed on this one. We all went to the same schools growing up and so everyone knew us as the Herreras sisters. And after many years, we’re still known as the Herrera sisters but we cut it short and added our Mexican culture into the mix. That’s how Las Herreras was created!
- Our Why: We decided to created a Youtube Channel for fun. We’ve had a couple of rough years and we realized we haven’t enjoyed life to the fullest like we use to. By doing these videos, we also hope we can help anyone going through a difficult moment and know they are not alone.
- Content: Since there is 3 of us and we are all different so expect a mixture of everything!
- Rubi- Make-up Tutorials, Vlogs, Beauty Hacks, Self-Care, Mukbang, Haunting Adventures
- Elizabeth (Liz)- Art Tutorials, Art Challenges, D.I.Y.s, Art Reviews, Cooking & Baking
- Lidia- Trips, Reporting Stories, Life Experiences (Greek, Internships, School), Houston’s Spot
- Goals: We each have different career goals and we’ve agreed that Youtube is our hobbie. But we also have goals for our channel:
- Community Impact: We are proud to have been raised in a diverse community like Alief (S.W.A.T.) and we want to eventually give back through volunteering, starting a foundation, etc.
- Inspire: We want to inspire everyone that watches our channels in anyway possible. We believe that dreams can become a reality if you never give up!
But what if you go viral!?
I would be lying if I told you we hadn’t though about that. Anything that we decide to do like sports, art competitions, or whatever it is…we want to be successful in! So our Youtube Channel is the same thing but we are NOT doing it for money. Youtube is a great platform to raise awareness about anything you are passionate about. We have a couple of topics we are passionate about and we hope through our channel over the years, we are able to talk or be part of events that are connected to those topics.
I hope that anyone that watches our channel will see that we create videos for fun and that we are 100% genuinely us. We don’t try to be anyone else so what you see in these videos is who we are on a daily basis.
Realistically, I know we are going to argue a lot and there will be times that “quitting” will come into my mind but there’s definitely no one else I would rather do this with then my sisters. Here’s to a crazy new journey with my Sistas! #SistaSistas4Life
