It’s been almost 3 years since my big, Arielle and her family moved to Florida. We (sorority sisters) promised to visit her since many of us have never visited Florida. Now ask how many times we visited her….zero!

She knew this would happen so last year she told us for her birthday she was planning a trip to Miami. And we FINALLY visited Florida but most importantly celebrated Ari.

Here’s some of our favorite places we visited in Miami:

Miami’s Art & Science Museum:

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is a 6 floor building with a science museum, planetarium, and an aquarium. It has many interesting and interactive exhibits that constantly change so there is always something new to learn about. The 5th and 6th floor have the best views of Miami’s bay. The Perez Art Museum has many art collections from local and international artists from the Americas, Western Europe, and Africa. Not only is there art pieces in the museum but also outside. Both museums are walking distance from each other so you can visit both in the same day.

Wynwood Walls:

Located in the warehouse district of Wynwood, these six buildings showcase street and graffiti art. Inside and outside of these buildings, there are art pieces from lifes-size sculptures to giant canvases. Once you are done at the walls, walk around the district to see other graffiti artworks and also stop by the endless shops and cafes.

Little Havana:

Once was the home to the Jewish community but was transformed into Little Havana by Cubanos who left Cuba and migrated to the US in the 1960’s. Calle Ocho which is part of Little Havana has many restaurants, local stores, markets, parks, and monuments. Now, Little Havana has turned into a Latin community as Latin Americans have made Miami their new home. Unfortunately, after eating at Versailles it started raining so we weren’t able to walk around Little Havana. But if you ever visit Miami you have to visit Little Havana and try un Cubano (sandwhich), un cortadito (espresso), or a pastelito (pastry)!

Yacht on the Miami Bay:

One of the many activities that Ari planned, was seeing the bay area on a yacht. If you want to experience the bay area first had, you have to get on a yacht/boat. Our captain took us all along the bay and also close to a sand-duck area where many boats dock so their passengers can swim for hours.

Miami’s Nightlife:

Miami has some of the best nightlife. From pool bars to live shows to night clubs, this city is an on going party. We weren’t able to go to a lot of bars but we did go to the famous Congo Bongo where they had live music, professional salsa dancers and rooms with a different genre of music playing in each one. If you’re lucky maybe you’ll meet a celebrity one night!

Miami’s Beaches:

Imagine the softest white sand, endless clear water, and in the distance Latin music playing while the sun begins to set. This was South beach but I’m sure all of Miami beaches are equally beautiful. We’ve only spend a couple of hours at this beach but it was worth every second.

Spending a weekend, celebrating my big in one of America’s beautiful cities was amazing. Miami is definitely a city with it’s own vibe and you have to experience it in person but if you do visit…bring an umbrella/raincoat because in this paradise, it does rain!

Love Always,

Lidia

P.S. Isn’t my big the cutest!? Ari, thank you for not only being my big sister and giving me endless advice but also for being you. Not many people are able to get to know the real you but for the ones who do, we can honestly say there is no one like you! We can definitely count on you for anything/everything but most importantly to bring us together. Can’t wait for you to FINALLY move back to Texas but also for the many more memories we will all make in our future trips together! Happy Belated Birthday! <3
