Once A Coog, Always A Coog

Isn’t it crazy to think that a person is in school for about 18 years or more!? By the time we graduate from college, you would have spend the majority of  your life writing, reading, and studying.

Right now, we’re all saying we’re not going to miss school once we’re officially done but will that actually be true? All these years we got into the habit of commuting, walking across campus, having lunch with your friends in the exact same place, studying in your favorite library spot, using your student ID for everything…but that happens when it all comes to an end….

I transferred to the University of Houston the Fall semester of 2015 and was only suppose to be there for 2 years but I decided to double major so added another year. But these last 3 years have passed by so fast.

When someone asks you what college you go to, you can’t help but think  about your 1st day of school without

smiling. On my 1st  day, parking was a nightmare and you know if you go to a commuter school the struggle. Of course I was late because I got lost (typical new student problems) but that’s not the worst part of this day. My Communication Professor freaked the class out when he bluntly said PR majors were the devil after he made everyone raise their hands to classify their majors. Who says something like that on the 1st day!?

Thinking about my 1st day, I can’t help think of other college memories that I will leave behind soon…

Staying hours at the lib to only get one homework done thanks to your friends who gave you “study breaks”

UH Orientation 2015

that you didn’t need but always welcomed. The worst thing was finding a table/study room open during finals week. But that view on the 8th floor of the Houston Skyline, 10/10 recommended in the day or night! Can’t forget about the Nook Cafe where I spend hours “studying” but mostly blogging.

Preparing mentally to stand in a long line for just a Chick-Fila sandwich at the UC when the Satellite one always had a shorter line. Or trying to save you money by not going to McAlisters but somehow always end up there. Having lunch with friends was something I always looked forward to each week.

My home away from home that was a short walking distance where I would take a naps or just go to get away when being on campus was tiring. There is always someone at the house to brighten your day a little more.

Taking a break from studying near the Cullen fountains on a breezy day was also one of my favorite things. On a not so humid Houston day, you can see students lying or professors having classes outside or having spontaneous photo shoots with your friends.

Can’t forget the days when it rained and I had to walk across campus for my next class. Yes, I was that idiot that forgot their umbrella and rain jacket. But we’ve all had those days.

Or morning games which means 8am tailgates…yes college kids do get up that early to drink. Frat theme parties Thursday-Friday, then going out to the bars. Bars, who can’t forget our campus bar, Rooftop (Calhoun) which was packed every Thursdays-Saturdays.

I can’t believe in some days I will officially be done with school forever and it still doesn’t feel real. I’ve picked up my cap and gown, received my college ring, taken grad pics but it still hasn’t hit me. Now that I think about it when I was graduating from high school, it didn’t hit me until graduation day so maybe that’s how it will be.

Transferring to UH was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’m grateful for experiences, lessons, and friendships I made here. But it all has to come to an end.

Studying all the time will soon come to an end. Friends that I’m use to seeing almost every day will soon become every once in a while. Habits that I have gotten use to will soon fade.

Here’s to college experiences soon becoming memories. Memories that will turn into stories over the years. A chapter ending as another one is beginning.

Congrats Class of 2018, we did it and here’s to the future!

True It Will Ever Be,

Lidia
